Updates & Recommendations + Bob Burns and the Breakups TONIGHT!

Hey guys-

Sorry, I'm behind on reviews! I've got a nice stack-o-wax to review. I recently started a free-lance writing gig, as well as my regular job, radio show, heading back to school, etc...you know the drill. I'll do my best to get stuff up ASAP! Seriously, so many great records have recently come out, including the Black Time/Husbands split 7" on Show & Tell, New Los Llamarada LP on S-S, new rad stuff on Plastic Idol including Imaginary Icons, Hank IV and Retainers, and TONS more. You should be seeing some reviews soon, I promise!

Check out my radio show archives as well for new and old music.
I draw comix....

Also, I keep forgetting to mention, but some of my reviews appeared in the last issue of Midtown Monthly (the BIKE issue). I'm going to be trying to write more for this magazine. It's a super cool new thing out of Sacramento, and I'll be contributing to the music section. Pick it up in Sacto! Here's more information!

While you're bored at work (today is my day off!), check out these awesome music blogs. I'm currently downloading tracks to blast to drown out my neighbor's horrible music.

Killed by Death Records
7inch Punk
Modpoppunk Archives (*an Out of Order favorite!)

If you know of other great ones, list 'em in the comments section!

AND FINALLY--->

KDVS Fundraiser April 16th-22nd

WHAT: KDVS FUNDRAISER
WHEN: APRIL 16th-22nd
WHO: KDVS 90.3fm (Davis, CA)
WHERE: www.kdvs.org

Hey all, please help support KDVS Radio! This station has shaped who I am today, my music tastes and probably contributed to my insanity, but seriously, they are a great station, with an awesome mission. They are a non-profit, free form radio station mainly volunteer run. They serve the Davis-Sacramento area, and world-wide with their internet presence, audio streams and superb music, news and public affairs programming.

For $25 as a student (or low-income), $40 as a community member, you support a rad station, you make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation and can snag an awesome premium package with music, get a great book, t-shirt, gift certificate, etc.

For larger donations, you receive grander thank you gifts from KDVS.

Bands: For $150 you get 4 hours of Studio time with a KDVS engineer to record your demo/record/single, etc.

For $100 you can host your own 1-hour radio program! You'll be assisted to play your choice of music that will be broadcasted LIVE on KDVS! Also for $100 you can have the KDVS Mobile DJ unit DJ your dance party, wedding, birthday, etc.

There are TONS of great reasons why you should donate, and so many great thank you gifts, so why not help out KDVS Radio? Free Form Radio is a dying breed, and without your support KDVS will just be another name on a tombstone.

We are trying to raise $70,000 and it can be done if you donate this week!

I will be personally trying to raise $500 on my radio show on TUESDAY April 17th, 2007 from 8-9pm. You may donate then to help me raise my show goal, and/or any other time to help KDVS out.

Thanks so much for reading, and your support!!

-Heather K.

Ohsees (OCS) on Saturday Night!

Hands down the show of the year so far...I've really been looking forward to this one. I saw the Ohsees play last Spring. They feature John Dwyer (Coachwhips, Pink & Brown...) and is more of a raw, stripped form of music, taking a slower pace, with errie lyrics, darker themes and sly melodies.
I'm in love with the Ohsees since that Spring performance when the days were longer, warmer and not so hectic. Is it my nostalgia for Spring, or am I still in awe of this band? I believe it's both, so don't miss it. Supporting acts include are the Ski Instructors (feat. members of the Bananas, Nar, FM Knives, Bright Ideas & more!) and Restaurant, somewhat of a mystery band.

This takes place at Fools Foundation at 10pm on Saturday, February 24th.

Out of Order Store up!

The Out of Order store is finally up! Check it out right here. Everything I sell, from Out of Order stuff, to things that I mailorder are all up on that page. Record Reviews #8

Fevers
Get On Again
Plastic Idol

Super catchy, nostalgic power pop infused with amazing hooks, superb songwriting and the fun that the Fevers always deliver. More upbeat A-side with an acoustic number on the flipside, which holds its
own well in this great package. Only 500 pressed in Plastic Idol Fashion, and on pink vinyl no less.
Link: Fevers Website

Intelligence
I’m Your Taxi
Holy Cobra Society

The Intelligence superbly deliver with this blown-out chunk of wax released on Madrid, Spain’s Holy Cobra Society. It’s almost as if they plugged their guitars into the wrong amps and turned the knobs so far they broke off; but they always manage to sneak in those wondrous melodies into a mess of noise.
600 copies pressed on that thick, overseas vinyl we love so much. “No Nurses” stands out to me, but you can’t go wrong with any of these tracks, and I’m sure these 600 copies are going to fly. If you aren’t familiar with the Intelligence, (where have you been?) they feature former A-FRAMES drummer Lars, now on guitar and vocals, also a member of a number of other bands including the DIPERS.
myspace.com/theworldisadrag

The Lamps
Fred Astaire
Solid Sex Lovie Doll

Sounding much like their track from their split 7inch with the RAT TRAPS, the Lamps bring three ultra-blown-out-extremely lo-fi tracks to their newest release. With each new record, this band gets better and better. Recorded in a basement, this is one of the rawest recordings I’ve heard from them and I love it. Crank the volume; your deserving neighbors will hate you. I know mine do!
myspace.com/thelamps

MegaCools
Weird Dreams are Crazy 7”
Megacool Records

Awesome Sacto-pop featuring new-comers Ryan “F-Sharp” and Christine Shelley-girl-drummer wonder, and Charles Albright who’s had his foot in so many Sacto bands, it’s hard to keep track. More low-key a-side, with a catchy guitar riff, and on the flipside, “You Don’t Send me No Flowers” which will most likely get stuck in your head. REPLACEMENTS and WIPERS influenced. Limited pressing, in cool hand-made sleeve, so act fast!
myspace.com/themegacools

Tranzmitors
Bigger Houses, Broken Homes 7”
Deranged

The B-side is what really does it for me on this 7inch. As soon as you set that needle down, “Glamour Girls” jumps out like a classic, catchy Buzzcocks/Undertones tune. It’s the kind of infectious pop song you should be vaccinated against before you go out and buy every record of theirs. Great stuff featuring the immediately recognizable vocals from Jeffie of the NEWTOWN ANIMALS. This band is cranking out singles faster than I can keep up with, and also have a full length in the works!

Updates!

I'm taking a hit today with a dreaded, non-paid sick day. I've been meaning to post some updates, so let's take a bunch out and just post 'em now.

Kind of silly, but super exciting none-the-less since I've never made stickers before for Out of Order.

If you would like a couple stickers, send a SASE to:

Out of Order Records
c/o Stickers!

Or, just order anything from the mailorder, or label and you'll get one for free!!!
I'll also be making sticker/button sets coming soon!

Live in the Warzone
My weekly radio show lives on, on KDVS 90.3 fm. Check out the direct link here.
You can view past playlists, and other information here.
Tomorrow, my radio show will not broadcast due to a sports pre-emption. Fear not, I'll be back the following week with more great records to spin.

Out of Order Zine #4
The zine is still in production, and I'm shooting for it's completion later this month. It promises to be my best yet, with a range of awesome interviews and articles, including pieces with TYVEK, NIGHT WOUNDS, PRIVATE DICKS, ERNIE QUINTERO, NATE BEDORTHA and more! Tons of record reviews as always and other fun goodies.

KDVS Spring Record Swap
Mark your calendars! May 20th, 2007 is the date for the Spring Record Swap. Dealers, contact us now for a table or two, and hungry record geeks, get ready! Check out the flyer in PDF format here!

Web Stuff
I also have current hopes of doing a website re-format, and also creating a whole store page with easy-to-use pay pal buttons for those who love pay pal. Look for that soon...

Thanks for following along in the Out of Order world!

Take care,
