Let's Get Trashed!

I am more than proud to announce Out of Order's second release! Coming soon will be a 7inch by the Trashies out of Seattle, Washington! Fans of the Spits, and of course the Dissimilars will like these guys. They are a ton of fun, and a great addition to the label!

This will be a limited-quantity release. We are looking at a 5-song 7inch to be out later this year. More info coming soon...

Check out the Trashies Myspace Page.

Here is the first in an on-going series of reviews. Records below are recent purchases, or I've just gotten around to listening to them.

If you want to mail your record(s) in for review, please do so. I'm broke, and can't buy as many records as I'd like to.

Baseball Furies
"Lost Ones" 7inch
Alien Snatch

Their last record on Big Neck was a little disappointing, but this band proves they are still awesome with this 3-song 7inch. Alien Snatch is becoming one of my favorite labels, and this release falls under some of the better ones. This is one of the best 7inches I’ve heard this year. Also Includes a great cover of the Reatards “Quite All Right.” Simple, good-looking cover and three great tunes.

Th' Losin'’ Streaks
"3 X 4"” 7inch
Dollar Record Records

One of thee best current Sacramento bands, Th’ Losin’ Streaks are a nostalgic 60s garage/rock-n-roll band, that do it better than several from that era. After their awesome LP on Slovenly, we’ve all been waiting around for a follow up. The A side is a song that was on Sounds of Violence- “Beg, Steal or Borrow”. “Outside” is a good Downliners Sect cover. The best song on here is the b-side. “Bad News Better Good” really gets you revved up for that next record… Chris Woodhouse even plays 2nd guitar on that track (he also recorded this 7inch and the first record).

Manikins/Ulcers
Split 7inch
P Trash Records

I’ve been hearing more and more of the Manikins from Sweden, care of Mario at Plastic Idol who is releasing a 7inch by them in the near future. The stuff I’ve heard is a very catchy, fun brand of power pop and punk rock. The songs on this 7inch aren’t as poppy as what I’ve previously heard, but still good. The pairing is perfect; both bands have that fast-paced rock and roll thing down. The last track of each side is a cover of the other. I’m more prone to the Manikins side, but both are good.

Show Cancelled

The show last night got cancelled. I got a call around 12pm from Giant Haystacks telling me their van broke down in Portland, and they and Hardskin were stranded, awaiting their van to be fixed. They wouldn't be in California till the early hours.

I spent several hours trying to find a couple replacement bands, and after a couple maybes, some ideas, and lots and lots of work, it just didn't look like anything was going to pull through, and it got to be too stressful. The show was cancelled. It's too bad because I was really looking forward to it, and put a lot of work into it. Booking shows is a major drag.

You still have a chance to see Hardskin, and Lyme Regis- they will be playing at Gilman on Friday Night (Jan. 13th).

Here Goes!

Out of Order blog numero uno.

Ok, so I’m buckling down and starting the Out of Order Blog. The zine is going to go on hiatus; there are plans for a return to a print version, among with all the other projects I’ve got brewing. To keep it cheap, and easy accessible, you can say the zine has transferred itself into this blog for the time being.

I find myself loathing the internet a lot of the time, but there are some great resources out there. It’s been super helpful in learning about independent music, and remains one of the best sources out there. It’s made it incredibly easy to access information that was once super hard to find unless you were in-the-know. Zines, records, that really smart friend, college radio, good record stores, live shows, etc, and now add on the internet.

Being someone who's learned a lot from all these sources and more, I'd like to share some of what I know, and use this as another creative outlet.

This is a wide-range blog, not just here to blab on about the whereabouts of Out of Order Records, but it’s a place to geek out about records, post reviews, news, interviews, photos, shows, etc. Out of Order Records is not just a label, or a distro, but it’s a way wider spectrum of projects, and ideas of mine centered around underground, independent music and culture.

Enjoy!
