Dance Party Next Weekend!

Hey Folks, I'm DJing next Saturday with other KDVS DJs' Fuzzbox Flynn and Oddy Knocky. Playing LIVE will be Tacocat, featuring Erik of the Trashies!! This is an all-ages event at Delta of Venus. It's free, but donations are requested for the band. This goes on from 9-Midnight. Come on out and dance, or hang out and enjoy the great music. This should be awesomely fun, don't miss it!!

Sorry it's been a while, but after my mini-vacation to Oregon, I moved, broke my laptop, had no internet, been working like crazy and started school. Holy mole! Anyways, more comics will resume this week (maybe by Labor Day), while I continue to gather my life out of boxes and into my new place in Sacramento. A cup of coffee found it's way in my laptop, making it tough for me to update my website, so if you're looking to order some records (please do), I have a few changes:
-The Fevers 7" is NOT SOLD OUT. I found a few copies while moving (duh).
-The Purple Wizard - Power of Love 7" IS SOLD OUT.

I've just printed my first batch of comix! First printing has blue cover. They are only $3 postage paid in the U.S.A.! I will have a handful to trade and sell at the Portland Zine Symposium this weekend. There's now another outlet for me to promote your music, and geek out. Finally! Some Record Reviews!

Taking a break from writing a research paper, and finally, here's some record reviews I've been promising. I've got more coming, hopefully this weekend. It's boiling here in California, I hope YOU are well, where-ever you are.

ALSO- there are some great shows happening, including, July 29th: the Lamps, Haunted George, Cheap Time and the Pizzas at Delta of Venus, in Davis. That whole weekend is insane- featuring some amazing back to back shows with Night Wounds, Sexy Prison, A-Frames, Abe Vigoda, and holy shit, so much more!! Visit undietacos.org for more information.

Black Time / Husbands
Split 7”
Show and Tell Records

Miscreants from the UK- Black Time bash out arty punk rock, delivering heavy bass-lines, pounding drums and catchy guitar riffs that stun like a musical ray gun. “Downtown” is a grade-A winner, while “Charm Offensive” is just gripping as their “Son of Sam” cover from the Killed by Trash LP. They are paired on this split with the Husbands, an all-girl group from San Francisco. An odd match, but somehow it works. Rough and tuff w/ dirty guitars and vocals, the Husbands drive two garage rock punches, including an Ike Turner cover! Another great addition to the Show and Tell catalog fo’ sure!

Great name, and a great duo from Baltimore. I caught these guys live with Dan Deacon, and was mighty impressed with them. This LP is amazing, and one of my greatest finds of the year. Lifting the gorgeous green and white swirl vinyl from the sleeve was the first hint of its greatness. They are truly, like a better Japanther. Video Hippos is compiled of a drummer and guitarist (with keyboards and effects added), and live, they project home-made movies in the background, including clips of a dolphin eating pizza and video games like Mario Paint! I’m severely in love with this record. Its simple, effective beats, fun-loving vocals, and pop aura are ferociously addictive. “Kool Shades” immediately caught me, while no one track on this record disappoints. One of the best full-lengths of the year!

Sorry, I'm behind on reviews! I've got a nice stack-o-wax to review. I recently started a free-lance writing gig, as well as my regular job, radio show, heading back to school, etc...you know the drill. I'll do my best to get stuff up ASAP! Seriously, so many great records have recently come out, including the Black Time/Husbands split 7" on Show & Tell, New Los Llamarada LP on S-S, new rad stuff on Plastic Idol including Imaginary Icons, Hank IV and Retainers, and TONS more. You should be seeing some reviews soon, I promise!

Hey all, please help support KDVS Radio! This station has shaped who I am today, my music tastes and probably contributed to my insanity, but seriously, they are a great station, with an awesome mission. They are a non-profit, free form radio station mainly volunteer run. They serve the Davis-Sacramento area, and world-wide with their internet presence, audio streams and superb music, news and public affairs programming.

For $25 as a student (or low-income), $40 as a community member, you support a rad station, you make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation and can snag an awesome premium package with music, get a great book, t-shirt, gift certificate, etc.

For larger donations, you receive grander thank you gifts from KDVS.

Bands: For $150 you get 4 hours of Studio time with a KDVS engineer to record your demo/record/single, etc.

For $100 you can host your own 1-hour radio program! You'll be assisted to play your choice of music that will be broadcasted LIVE on KDVS! Also for $100 you can have the KDVS Mobile DJ unit DJ your dance party, wedding, birthday, etc.
