Sorry!

Sorry for neglecting the blog. I've been distracted by this:

Our new kitten, Ellie. Notice the records in the background. I've still got Green Green 7"s for sale that come with a free button.

No plans yet for the next record...a little too broke for that at the moment, but I sense greater things for 2010.

Don't forget, the next KDVS Music Fest is happening October 3rd. Great bands including Yellow Fever and Nothing People! Great burgers and cold beer!!

HEAD live in Sacramento tonight!!

HEAD from Seattle, WA will be playing tonight at the Java Lounge. If you love pop punk with stupid lyrics, you will love these guys. Sounding very simular to the Ramones, (some even say they out-Ramone the Ramones) this will be a great show coming to Sac! The door is a little steep...$10? Oh well, it should be worth it. Chixdiggit & Kepi Ghoulie play at 7pm and Head goes on at 9pm.

You know this band is good when two of my best friends have named their cats after members in this band.

Heil Head!

Remember this Record?

I'm starting a new segment on the blog to remember older records that I love. Here's the first one!

THE DRAGS - STOP ROCK AND ROLL

I love this record! My first taste was "Who's got the electricity?" I used to play it on my radio show a lot. When the Dissimilars visited back in 2005 or so, they put this record on and sang along to the songs. It's such a catchy record, super lo-fi with great tunes and a lot of energy. My only complaint is that it's so damn short. Crazy to think it came out 12 years ago on Estrus. 1997 was a long time ago, although it doesn't seem like it! This record can still be spotted in used bins. It is way over-looked. Grab a copy, you won't regret it.

Hunx and His Punx

I've gotta re-start posting regularly to the Out of Order blog! For a jump-start back, I've gotta post about one of my new favorite artists! Don't you just love that cover? Holy shit!

HUNX AND HIS PUNX!

Word is, another of my favs, NOBUNNY writes some of the songs, and you can't go wrong there. Super fun, boy love, snotty pop songs?! It's great stuff, listen to all the songs, especially "You Don't Like Rock n Roll", "Hey Rocky" and "Gimmie Back Your Love". Hey, there's videos too!!

Out of Order Release for 2009

I should keep up with this blog more, seriously. With that, I'm announcing now that I will be co-releasing a record next year with Orange Regret Records. We're putting out a 7" by local kid Green Green. It's a cool very lo-fi bedroom-indie-punk-fuzz kind of thing.

I'm bummed that I didn't keep with the goal of releasing at least one record a year, but when you have no money and your house burns down, I guess that gives you a good excuse!

None the less, I'm really looking forward to this release, and I'm actually living in a place that can accommodate stuffing records!

Please keep tuned to the blog and my website, www.outoforderrecords.com.

I'll try to post more!

Go Vote!

It's election day! Fit time in your day to drop by the polls. I've already voted via absentee. If you have your absentee ballot and didn't mail it, you have to drop it off at a polling place IN YOUR COUNTY. That's important- it's too late to mail it, but you can bring it to any polling place that's in your county.

In California, please vote on the props.
Some of the important ones are:

Prop 2- Vote Yes (Give animals more space)
Prop 4- Vote No (Keep it so minors do not have to report abortions to parents)
Prop 8- Vote No (To keep gay marriage legal)

I would comment on the other props, but I'm no expert, these three are extremely important.

Have a great day! Don't forget, there's a Midtown Monthly party tonight at the Press Club and th' Losin' Streaks play at 10pm. I don't think I can make it, but you should!

Mo' Music Blogs

Although I'm on the internet a lot, I don't know too many music blogs and am trying to extent that. I've been too busy and trying to save money that I haven't visited any record stores (gasp) besides where I work. I'd love to sample some new music and add them on to my purchase list. I just discovered OngakuBaku, which is great, and have been keeping up on System of Romance. Speaking of which, you can get the whole Algebra Suicide collection, which is super hard to find. Great minimalist synth-post punk.

If you know of other great ones, please post them in the comment section.

I'm still in the process of house-hunting and drowning in work. More blog posting soon.........

ORMF 6 Music Fest Today!!

Today! Fight the wind and come on out for cold beer, great burgers and tunes!

Read below, thanks to DJ Rick for the extreme code-age!

Freeform KDVS 90.3FM in Davis presents...
OPERATION: RESTORE MAXIMUM FREEDOM VI

On Saturday, October 11, 2008 ten groups will take to the stage of Plainfield Station to rock Operation: Restore Maximum Freedom VI, the DIY underground music festival presented by freeform alternative KDVS 90.3FM in Davis.

It kicks off at 1:30pm with KDVS DJs spinning killer tracks from this year's top albums. The live music starts blasting at 2pm, with an eight hour roller coaster of punk to experimental to raw folk to indie to psych until 10pm sharp. All this is happening at Plainfield Station, 23944 County Road 98, just north of Davis. Best burgers, killer tacos, and beer bar for 21+.

$7 presale/student and $10 general door admission feeds the hungry touring vans and artists.

Presale tickets are currently available at Armadillo Records in Davis and through our PayPal button on our Myspace page...
http://www.myspace.com/maximumfreedom

Group bike rides are leaving from Davis, as well as a shuttle bus for those too inebriated to keep upright on two wheels. Maximum Freedom has developed a strong tradition of biking to the festival. For the past five fests, people have biked from as far away as the Bay Area to see this unique event! Bike rides leave from Davis at 1pm and 4pm, returning from Plainfield at 10:30pm.

The free KDVS shuttle bus will leave Davis at 1:30pm and 6:30pm, returning from Plainfield at 6pm and 10:30pm.

Driving Directions:
From I-80, take 113 north for a few miles. Exit at Covell blvd. and turn left. Turn right at County Road 98. You will see the Plainfield Station on your left, right after the intersection of County Roads 98 and 29.

Check our DavisWiki and Myspace pages for more updates! And stay tuned to KDVS 90.3 FM or http://www.kdvs.org/ for music from the featured bands, ticket giveaways and more information.

The Lineup:

LSD & the Search for God

Described quite accurately as dreamy indie-warp by the San Francisco Chronicle, this SF group has been compared to My Bloody Valentine, Luna, Spacemen 3, and the Telescopes, with its uniquely moving blend of psychedelic shoegaze indie rock.

Traditional Fools
Shrieking buzzing guitars and raw vocals meet punk melodies to send a killer garage punk rock n roll lighting bolt straight down your spine and get your feet dancing.

Blackblack
LA indie rock ushers out the summer with ebola-catchy lyrics melodies that make you want to dance, then takes a step back to reveal beautifully cute indie pop.

Ohioan
Will this wandering Portland native bard be able to hitchhike his way down the coast in time for ORMF? You'd better hope so, or you ll miss his powerful, sorrowful, honest folk brewed on the roads of America.

Inca Ore
Surreal experimental that must be witnessed to realize the warping of your mental state.

Hexlove
The drummer from Sacramento's Who's You're Favorite Son, God? and Prints launches forth in his solo drum n' ambient experimental crusade against lameosity and the expected.

Beware of the Knight
A mysterious blast from the past, the distilled essence of Sacto '95 Loft in psych/weird/garagepunk form, manifesting itself in a Sacramento rocker playing his first live show in a long, long time.

Countless Others
Feedback fuzzed up, messed up, roadkill raw, garagey rock n roll hailing from The City. What else can you say?

Religious Girls
Forged from the ruins of Destroy Tokyo, this Eastbay experimental electronic rock project takes convention out behind the shed and shoots it.

San Fransisco Water Cooler
Local lords of the psych garage, the sound flows like something that cannot be described, only felt. A KDVS Recordings featured artist!

Mattress is playing tonight in Sacramento! Read my blurb in the Midtown Monthly blog.

Recommended Music: Jeremy Jay

If you are a fan of pop music, you should track down records from JEREMY JAY. He makes really nice, low key fun music. Great for mornings at home while relaxing or up late working on projects. His records have been trickling into KDVS for the past couple of years and I've enjoyed all of them. He played in Sacramento last month at Luigi's Fun Garden and him and his band put on a great show.

Most of his stuff has been released on K Records. Although they only have his newest release, A Place Where We Could Go in stock.

-Listen/Watch "Airwalker"
-Listen/Watch my favorite Jeremy Jay Song "Escape to Aspen" (that guitar riff is so good during the chorus!!)

Tonevendor, formally of Sacramento, now in Florida has a bunch of his records in stock! Find them here.

HOLLEEE SHIT

WHO WANTS TO GO TO RENO?!?

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Hey Sacramento! Be Careful!

Ladies (and everyone for that matter) BE CAREFUL! Someone is attacking women around 24th-26th streets on E in Midtown.

http://cbs13.com/local/midtown.sacramento.sexual.2.784320.html

This is very close to where I used to live, and I know several of you do too. I used to walk around by myself a lot and never felt in danger. Please warn your family and friends and be careful!

Also in the news, Corti Bros is losing their lease. Another reason to support small businesses! Big business is fucked up! Even though I'm in Davis now, I'm going to try to make it back over there before they move and get some of their rad beer and other goodies.

Keep it real,

-HK

Weekend Round-up + Tuesday Show!

I hope you got the news that the Ohsees show was moved to the Witchdome on Saturday. The show was awesome! Standard Tribesmen are really gelling together- the sax sounds a lot better. They just need some new songs now. I stayed outside for Witch Hats to avoid the hot basement, and accounts said they were OK. I could hear them. Yellow Fever is a really cool indie / post punky band who are amazing! I can't believe I've never heard them before. Female vox reminds me of Liliput/Raincoats. Listen to them on myspace and buy their stuff!! Ohsees were fantastic as always. The new record - The Masters Bedroom is Worth Spending the Night in is out on snazzy purple vinyl and the new live CD/DVD is out as well.

Tuesday is the EAT SKULL show in Davis. The record is OK. I'm hoping I am very impressed when I see them live. I keep missing them. English Singles are also playing- who are getting better and better. Don't miss it! I hope I don't...

Friday, July 11, 2008

Ohsees this weekend!!

Super sweet show this weekend in Sacto. Hope to see you there! Be respectful....maybe Rick's Dessert Diner beforehand?!?! I recommend the Chocoalte Caramel Mousse Tart! mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Welcome to California

Ugh, the weather is awful here in the central valley of California. We're in the middle of a 100+ degree heat wave, and to make it worse, the hundreds of fires burning throughout the state are causing smoke to choke up the air, and the air quality is flat out unsafe. It looks overcast outside, but it's really smoke, and the sun looks orange.

Why do people worry so much about earthquakes, when the fires have been much worse?

Anyways, enough of that. Just taking a quick lunch break. Thought I'd let you know I got a button maker, so if you need some 1" buttons, please get in touch. I'd love to pay off this machine quick!

Lots of people grabbed some great records, as well as crafts, books, zines, buttons, etc. Thanks to all the vendors and volunteers who got up early with us!

I forgot to remind you to vote today. Not that I forgot, but I just got too busy. Oh well, if you're in California, hopefully you voted. I did! Absentee voting rules, except you don't get a cool little sticker.

On to other issues to be reminded about, the KDVS Record Swap that I'm co-coordinating is coming up later this month. June 29th to be exact.

There's going to be a great selection this year around- music, books, crafts, zines, etc. I'm stoked!

Coffe Mugs!

Holy crap, I've had a dream, and that dream is to one day make mugs- not specifically Out of Order ones, but maybe something generic like records or something on them.

I just heard about these mugs made from corn, which are biodegradable, and aren't as brittle as ceramic. These look really cool. There are already people using these and they look neat. I'm going to have to track one down.

I'm way too poor right now, but maybe in the future when I get some extra money, I may try to make some. Leave a comment if you'd be interested in buying a cool coffee mug! I'd sell them cheap, probably $10 or less...

Blog Problems

Hey all,

I'm having problems with the Out of Order COMIX blog (not this one). It's some blogger-issue with blogs that post via FTP to another website.

Anyways, if you read both blogs, I just wanted you to know. Stupid blogger.

I don't believe in sunshine

I've spent the past 3 hours working on a bunch of web crap, which reminds me, I am looking to pick up a bunch of freelance graphic design and web design jobs. I really need to bring in some money.

I charge cheap rates (I'm still a student, plus I'm looking to expand my portfolio.)

If you're looking for any kind of design, please get in touch. I have experience in web banners, websites, print materials, and all sorts of stuff.

Better Beatles!!

Do you have this record yet? Well you should. This is a minimal synth band doing all Beatles covers in a way that you never thought you'd hear the Beatles. "I'm Down", "Lady Madonna", "Can't Buy Me Love" and the rest will blow your mind while you tap along and forget how the real songs go. Seriously, this is a major treat, and you deserve it. Your turntable deserves it. Go fetch!

Buy it now from Hook or Crook Records or your local record store!

Report from Reno Part. II

I am home now, but I am continuing my report from Reno where I attended the Sticker Guy 15th Anniversary show. (This is a music blog, of all things!)

Check out these photos someone took. We even made it in a few!

After the Bananas, we caught thee mighty SPITS, who are one of the greatest modern punk bands to ever live. Did you know Ernie Quentero is now their keyboardist? Besides from being in the Spits, Ernie is one of the nicest, coolest dudes and I usually run into him a few times a year. He has filmed and toured with some awesome bands, including the above mentioned, and the Black Lips. I did an interview with him for my "Punk Rock Roadies" article from the last Out of Order Zine. Also, check out his other band, Slab City!!

The Spits, as you'd expect, were awesome in their Reagan masks, and white cloaks. They played a bunch of the greats from their Slovenly release, and their first record, and even a few from the last one like "Witch Hunt" and "Nuclear Bomb". I sung along, of course. The crowd really enjoyed them, especially this dude in front of us who, instead of pounding his fist in the air, would pound his skateboard in the air. It was bizarre, and annoying. (Check out the picture to the right. We're in there somewhere.)

While chatting with Ernie, I also was confirmed the sad news that indeed, the Dissimilars broke up. I inform you with great sadness. They were the first release on Out of Order Records and were the band that got the label off it's feet. Many thanks to DJ Rick for introducing me to the band, Larry for his wisdom and drunk phone calls, Jimmy for his smart remarks and sincerity, Hadi for his surprise jokes, and Nate, well Nate was the quiet one. Seriously, on meeting these guys I knew they were #1 dudes and I will never have any regrets on releasing the Jimmy's Room 7". The record is out of print, and will not be re-pressed. And it's better than the Plastic Idol one! Bam. Aww, I love both of them. I always had a blast when they made it up to Northern California to visit, and my only regret is that they didn't get better gigs when they were here.

I'll continue this report later...I've got a meeting to go to!

Report from Reno

Hey all, I'm in Reno for the Sticker Guy anniversary, and it's also my first trip to Reno. Ever notice as soon as you cross out of California, the roads suddenly get better? What the hell is up with that? California needs to step it up. Anyways, Reno = smooth roads. Once you get near the city, you see all the lights and that's when you realize you are entering the next dimension...

The 2-day show, excuse me, "party" is at this place in Reno called Club Underground. They have a terrible website. The club is pretty big, and there are two stages, which make the pace of the music awesome! There is a main stage and a bar stage. The bar stage is smaller, but that room makes it a little better to see the bands. The main stage actually reminds me a little bit of Gilman street, with the big open space.

We got to the venue around 9:30 or so and there was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge line outside, so we had to wait about 20 minutes and missed the Juveniles, a local Reno band I'd wanted to see. They have that sloppy-punk Trashies/Spits thing going on. Oh well. We got inside and started looking for our Sacto friends that'd be there, including Heckasac and the Bananas crew.

We hit the bar, and there was very little beer, just lots and lots of hard alcohol. And then I saw Blue Moon on tap and I was sold. I bought Andrew and I beer and about passed out when the Bartender said "$10". $5 for a fucking beer?! It wasn't even very good- for some reason, it tasted more like flat budweiser. With a tip, that was $12 total. DOH!

As I reeled from the shock, we got to see NOBUNNY from Oakland, who coincidently have new Oakland resident, Max Trashie, from the Trashies!! They all wore funny masks and put on a fun show. Once they finished, the announcer got on stage and lead us to the Bar Stage to catch Sacto's own the BANANAS! The kids just love THE BANANAS. We soon found Heckasac. After some small talk, we pointed at each others beers and yelled, "FIVE DOLLARS?!?".

The Bananas put on a great show. People went pretty apeshit. Early in the set, a beer went flying in the air. I looked over, and Andrew got the worst of it. Beer dripped off his hair, as if he'd just stepped under a beer shower. He was a trooper, though.
The beer stage is totally partied out with sparkly streamers hanging all over the place. For the Bananas, it just fits. They played a nice mix of new and old songs...I can't wait for the new record!!

In between bands, DJs play music, which is rad, but the music is way too loud, to the point where you can't talk to anyone without yelling. The mix of yelling to the person next to you, and breathing in the smokey air- (they can smoke indoors in Reno), is enough to make you appreciate places like California where you don't have to deal with that. I'm not wussing out, I'm just saying that if you want to smoke, that's fine, but I'd rather not get cancer from breathing in some shitty second-hand smoke. Plus, all my clothes totally reek. Oh well, what'dya gonna do.

Next Post: The rest of Friday night, including the Spits, Scared of Chaka, pros & cons.

Sticker Guy 15th Anniversary

I'm in Reno for the Sticker Guy 15th anniversary! I'll be posting Reports from Reno...I may even edit them later and include this in the next Out of Order Zine....we'll see.

Ohsees back in town tomorrow!

Okay, quick lunch break post. My heros the OHSEES are back in town tomorrow at the Charred Dog House in Davis. Warm Streams, Mayyors and uncut: hunks are also on the bill. A+ show that will be amazing. 7pm. All Ages.
Beer situation: BYOB, Co-op is close for awesome selection of beer.
Deal of the week: Blue Moon at Bevmo for $5.99 / 6 pack!!!!

(They have a weird website, but I love that drawing after the intro page.)

I just read that Blue Moon is brewed by Coors?!?! Mother fucker!
Quote:
"Coors does not actively advertise the fact that the brew is owned by Coors on the belief that being associated with a major national brewery would diminish its credibility among aficionados."

I have an uncle that brings a cooler of Coors to every family gathering. I guess we can now bond over some sort of similarity....this news makes me kind of depressed. Back to work!!

Pierced Arrows!

I should have posted this yesterday and totally forgot.

I'm sorry! The show was rad. Pierced Arrows/Dead Moon were great, even with the minor technical difficulties. And of course, I always love the Losin' Streaks!

Look out for another work-break post.

So lucky

I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who went to our awesome benefit show last Saturday. It was amazing to see everyone, the bands were fantastic and we really have great friends!! I feel very lucky to know the folks I know. My friends have been the most supportive through this whole thing, way more than my family (excluding my Mom, Taran and Scott!!) That is kinda sad, but whatevs. I also want to thank everyone who's donated money, kitchen stuff, clothes, and everything else.

I'm trying to post more on my blog, to keep it updated and fun to read besides the depressing news of the fire. It was devastating, and we still have our rough days, but we are all recovering.

I'm taking a quick lunch at work, eating some delicious TJ's mac n cheese. Work has been NUTS today, and I'm the only one in the office until later this afternoon. It's going to be a long day, but things are looking good.

Why not come down to the store if you're free today? We have some great records, great gifty-stuff and tons more. We'll be open today, tomorrow and re-open Friday. We'll have some 15% off coupons ready by tomorrow, but I'd give it to you today if you stop in.

We open at noon, and I'm here all day!

Our Benefit Show!

Hey! If you're in the area, please come out to our benefit show. We are struggling financially and could use the help.

Check out this rad flyer my friends made!! For the record, I got out with only 1 pair of pants (the one I was wearing that day.)

Thanks for all the offers for clothes and stuff. I'm on a minimalist point of view these days and am not really hurting for clothes (novelty socks excluded!!), but looking for things like kitchen stuff (mixing bowls, cooking utensils, baking stuff, etc.) Also, cheap shelving like milk crates, thick cardboard boxes, etc.

See you tomorrow!!

Damn Pay Pal!

Well, for some reason my donation button charges shipping on donations which is wack. Those of you who donated have been reimbursed the shipping charge. My apologies.

Thanks so much for donating!! If you would like to, please follow the updated donation button on my website on this page.

You guys are awesome.

BTW see you tonight at INTELLIGENCE / PINK REASON / LITTLE CLAW / PSYCHEDELIC HORSESHIT @ Delta of Venus, 9pm. All Ages.

Benefit Party & Donations

I hate asking for money, but if you have a few (or many) bucks to spare, please come out the benefit show for my roommates Andrew, Chris and I next Saturday, Nov 17th. We lost our home in a fire and are trying to replace what we lost. Playing will be thee Ohsees, Standard Tribesmen and one more TBA. Maybe the Pizzas! This is at a house in Davis, so be respectful. For more info please go here.

I've had requests to put up a paypal donation button, which is below. Again, I hate asking for money, but if you are so inclined, feel free to throw a few bucks our way to cover food and help replace all the crap we lost including furniture, guitars, books, shelves, clothes, pots and pans and way too much other stuff.

Thanks again for all the support from everyone!

To donate money to us, click below.

Neighbor Update

While at last night, we ran into our upstairs neighbors from our old place. It turns out their CAT SURVIVED. She turned up at a friend's house down the street later that night of the fire.

The fire fighters had found some sort of dead animal upstairs, which was assumed to be their cat. It must have been a squirrel or (big) rat.

I am so glad to hear that their cat is OK. She is super nice.

ALSO, there is a benefit show in the works for us put together by the awesome DJ Rick. It will feature favs Thee OH SEES, along with Standard Tribesmen and one more band TBA. This will happen Nov 17th (a Saturday) at a house in Davis. More details soon. My break at work is over!

Thanks for the kind words, food, towels, etc, and please, ORDER SOME STUFF FROM MY MAIL ORDER! We need the cash. Thanks!

A Mailorder Update

Hello folks,

Here is an update about the mailorder situation. It looks like all the 7"s are fine, as are the Trashies LPs.

And, christ. I just realized for some reason, my website isn't working. It's probably something to do with my billing address changing or something. I don't know. This whole thing is a nightmare. Please, everyone, make sure you have renters insurance if you rent! It will hopefully help you if you're ever victim of a fire or burglary. We don't and hopefully the negligent guy is going to have to pay us to replace what we can.

Anyways, I'll get a list up soon of what I have available, including some stuff that was off the site including out of print Angry Angles. I really need to sell stuff and make some money to get us through this!

take care,

-hk

Down in Flames

We lost our duplex on Tuesday in this fire in Midtown Sacramento (our place is on the left). Lucky, no one was hurt but our upstairs neighbors lost their sweet kitty cat. The damage was extensive- we lost a ton of stuff, including clothes, our beds, guitars, some music, books, at least one computer, 2 stereos, furniture, food, and way too much other stuff. But we are extremely lucky that we got out with what we did and we are unharmed. I am letting you know that please hold off on buying anything from the Out of Order mailorder so I can inspect the damage- I think all the records are safe, but I did lose the Genetic Disorder Zines, Out of Order Zines and Comix. This is devastating. Make sure you don't have any fucking idiot, coked out, pyro neighbors. Here's the cause of the fire.

We are currently staying at a friends' house. If you see any cool places in Midtown Sacto (2 bedroom min preferred), please let us know as we are trying to get into a new home ASAP and be the least trouble to our most amazing hosts.

Thanks for all the kind words we've gotten. It's been hell getting through this, but I know we will.

thanks,

-hk

Record Stores and Fan-tastic New Records!!

On my trip to Oregon in August, we visited 2 record stores with the limited time we had. On the first day, we hit up House of Records in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is a small college town, like Davis with way too much pride for their university's sports teams, but whatever. Anyways, after the nine or so hour drive to Eugene, we dropped stuff off at the hotel room, and make our rounds. After downing some okay pizza at a college pizzaria, we innocently passed House of Records, a small, converted house with, as the title says, records, tapes and CDs. Barely glancing an eye at those shiny discs, we zip to the vinyl selection, where some dude is blocking the punk/indie S-compilations section, listening to a huge stack of records with his portable turntable. Meganerd! Their vinyl section had a strange set up- a smaller shelf on the right had new releases, starting with indie/punk and merging into surf, rock and roll and then another set of genres. On the right was a tall self, alphabetically, but mixed with a bunch of different genres, new and used records of popular, and independent artists across the spectrum. This set-up basically formed a very narrow vinyl aisle, where Andrew and I were among close quarters with portable turntable guy, some dudes talking about a "limited" Radiohead LP that I wanted to punch, an aggressive vinyl seeker, and some shy guy who would occasionally venture in, and then duck out.

My stash from here includes the Holly Golightly Singles Collection on double LP, (an import from Damaged Goods!!), a used Country Teasers Satan is Real Again... LP and a Flock of Seagulls collection (gotta have "Modern Love is Automatic", "Telecommunication" and "It's not me talking".)

The next day, after the short drive to Portland, my #1 place of visit is Green Noise, now run by Ken of Dirtnap Records fame. It's a punk/indie specific store with a good selection of new vinyl, some used stuff, and CDs. My list was pretty long here, as I slapped down nearly $100 as I can't control myself in such a good store. Among favorites are the new Eat collection on Alternative Tentacles, Eater, Realtors collection on Rave Up, and holy crap so many more, I can't even remember them all. They also have a cool section of books, zines and comix! I haven't even had time to listen to all my records from here yet.

Which leads me to current music favs:

In no order...

1) Holly Golightly - Singles Collection (Damaged Goods)
2) The Eat - It's not the Eat, its the Humidity (AT)
3) Digital Leather - Blow Machine (FDH)
4) Barracudas - Through the Mysts of Time (Bomp)

Nerdy geek-out fun!

***EDIT***

Thanks to Andrew and Keith for pointing out my FDH spelling error. Thanks dudes!

I'm back I'm back I'm back!!!

Sorry it's been a while, but after my mini-vacation to Oregon, I moved, broke my laptop, had no internet, been working like crazy and started school. Holy mole! Anyways, more comics will resume this week (maybe by Labor Day), while I continue to gather my life out of boxes and into my new place in Sacramento. Please continue to mail stuff to me to my Davis P.O. box, as I will still be getting my mail there.

PO BOX 72775
Davis, CA 95617

Fan mail, comix, records to review for my website www.outoforderrecords.com, and other lovely things.

======
A few notes:

A cup of coffee found it's way in my laptop, making it tough for me to update my website, so if you're looking to order some records (please do), I have a few changes:
-The Fevers 7" is NOT SOLD OUT. I found a few copies while moving (duh).
-The Purple Wizard - Power of Love 7" IS SOLD OUT.

Please e-mail your order in, bypassing the paypal buttons if you plan on ordering the Fevers 7" and you're out of luck on that fantastic chunk of wax from Purple Wizard.

I will be trying to update my site soon on my dinosaur PC, so please bear with me while changes happen.

All orders waiting to go out will be shipped Tuesday. Sorry for the delay, but I've finally had time to unpack!

More exciting stuff hopefully happening soon,

All the best,

Music Request

Hi friends,

As you know, I have my own zine, blog, I volunteer & DJ at KDVS Radio, AND I've started writing for Midtown Monthly, a free magazine in Sacramento, California. There's now another outlet for me to promote your music, and geek out. If you're looking to get your music on the radio/reviewed in local press and online, please send me promos and copies of your records! I'm a music fanatic, as I'm sure you know and I'm looking for more music to review.

I recommend sending 2 copies- one for KDVS radio to add to the library and one for me to review and write about. If you can't afford that, no big deal.

You can send them to:

Heather Klinger
P.O. Box 72775
Davis, CA 95617

VINYL PREFERRED!!

No MP3's, I electronically-vomit on those.

If you have Q's, you can e-mail me: heather(at)outoforderrecords.com

Thanks dudes, have a great weekend!

Finally! Some Record Reviews!

Taking a break from writing a research paper, and finally, here's some record reviews I've been promising. I've got more coming, hopefully this weekend. It's boiling here in California, I hope YOU are well, where-ever you are.

ALSO- there are some great shows happening, including, July 29th: the Lamps, Haunted George, Cheap Time and the Pizzas at Delta of Venus, in Davis. That whole weekend is insane- featuring some amazing back to back shows with Night Wounds, Sexy Prison, A-Frames, Abe Vigoda, and holy shit, so much more!! Visit undietacos.org for more information.

If you're interested, I also draw comix, and will be printing my first batch of comic/x in the next few weeks. They can be found here.

On to the reviews!!

Black Time / Husbands
Split 7”
Show and Tell Records

Miscreants from the UK- Black Time bash out arty punk rock, delivering heavy bass-lines, pounding drums and catchy guitar riffs that stun like a musical ray gun. “Downtown” is a grade-A winner, while “Charm Offensive” is just gripping as their “Son of Sam” cover from the Killed by Trash LP. They are paired on this split with the Husbands, an all-girl group from San Francisco. An odd match, but somehow it works. Rough and tuff w/ dirty guitars and vocals, the Husbands drive two garage rock punches, including an Ike Turner cover! Another great addition to the Show and Tell catalog fo’ sure!

Video Hippos
Unbeast the Leash
Wildfire Wildfire

Great name, and a great duo from Baltimore. I caught these guys live with Dan Deacon, and was mighty impressed with them. This LP is amazing, and one of my greatest finds of the year. Lifting the gorgeous green and white swirl vinyl from the sleeve was the first hint of its greatness. They are truly, like a better Japanther. Video Hippos is compiled of a drummer and guitarist (with keyboards and effects added), and live, they project home-made movies in the background, including clips of a dolphin eating pizza and video games like Mario Paint! I’m severely in love with this record. Its simple, effective beats, fun-loving vocals, and pop aura are ferociously addictive. “Kool Shades” immediately caught me, while no one track on this record disappoints. One of the best full-lengths of the year!

Coming soon: Intelligence "Message of Love" 7inch, Toys that Kill & Tiltwheel 7"s from Razorcake Records, Jay Reatard's new EP and tons more...of course!
